How Tall Are the Harry Potter Characters: Height Chart & Analysis (2024)

Throughout the Harry Potter series there is a wide range of character heights. However, not all the heights are clearly stated, so we’ve researched and compiled a table of every known Harry Potter character’s height.

Harry Potter was about 5’11”, Ron Weasley 6’1″, Hermione 5’5″, Draco Malfoy 6″ and Dumbledore at 6’3″.

Unsurprisingly, the tallest main Harry Potter character is Rubeus Hagrid at 8’6” (259.1cm). The shortest is Filius Flitwick at 2’3” (68.6cm).

Harry Potter – 5’11” (180.3cm)

We see Harry Potter (and his friends) through many life stages during the series and the books.

They start out as kids, just turned 11 years old when they get their letters from Hogwarts. At the end of the series, after Harry has successfully gone through puberty and his growth spurt, he’s about 5’11”.

In the books, Harry is described as tall and lanky, and there are some theories that he’s closer to 5’8″. Daniel Radcliffe, who played Harry Potter in the movies, was only 5’5″, making Harry seem a little shorter than his intended height in the books.

Albus Dumbledore – 6’3” (190.5cm)

We all know and love the self-sacrificial Headmaster of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. He stands at about 6’3,” and he was described as being “tall and thin.”

The actor who plays Dumbledore in the latter part of the series, Michael Gambon, was 6’1″ at the time.

Hermione Granger – 5’5” (165.1cm)

Hermione Granger is the best friend of both Harry Potter and Ron Weasley. She is smart, dedicated to her studies and becoming a better witch, and she’s a fiercely loyal friend.

As a result of the Muggle-Born Registration Commission being set up, Hermione was forced to register with the Ministry. Hermione’s Ministry file lists her height as 5’5″ and weight as 118lbs. Therefore both Hermione and Emma Watson, who portrays her, are 5’5″.

Ron Weasley – 6’1” (185.4cm)

Ron Weasley completes the Golden Trio of friends, including Harry and Hermione. He is one of seven siblings, and while he can be extremely frustrating and dense, he’s also loyal and kind.

He is described as “quite tall and lanky.” Most people speculate that Ron is around 6’1″, while some say he could be as tall as 6’5″. It’s somewhat hard to imagine Ron being that tall when the actor who plays him, Rupert Grint, is only 5’8″.

Neville Longbottom – 5’7” (170.2cm)

We grow to love the awkward, shy, and fearful boy that grows into a man – Neville Longbottom.

Neville is described as “a round-faced boy, and J.K. Rowling once said he was “short and plump and blond.”

Neville is about 5’7″. This may seem odd, but that would be because the actor who plays Neville, Matthew Lewis, is actually 6 feet tall.

Luna Lovegood – 5’2” (157.5cm)

Whether you admit it or not, Luna Lovegood’s attitude is something we all strive for. Not only is she extremely confident in who she is, but she also never wavers on her beliefs, even when others make fun of her for it.

Yes, she’s also eccentric and somewhat odd, but it only makes her all the more lovable. She’s described as “having straggly, waist-length dirty-blond hair and a dazed look on her face.”

Luna stands at about 5’2″, and so does Evanna Lynch, the actress who portrays her.

Remus Lupin – 6’2” (188cm)

Remus Lupin was best friends with Sirius Black, James Potter, and Peter Pettigrew during their years at Hogwarts. He also suffered from Lycanthropy, meaning he turned into a werewolf. In his wizard form, Remus was about 6’2″.

Lily Potter – 5’6” (167.6cm)

Lily Potter is most notorious for her love and sacrifice to save baby Harry from Lord Voldemort. She was an extremely talented and kind witch. Lily was about 5’6″, and the actress who played her, Geraldine Somerville, was also 5’6″.

James Potter – 5’11” (180.3cm)

James Potter was the loving father of Harry Potter and the husband of Lily Potter. He was a troublemaker when he was a student at Hogwarts but later grew out of his immature ways.

Although James was described as “tall,” he still stood under 6 feet at about 5’11”. Some say he was shorter, about 5’8″, but with the clues we are given about his height, it’s estimated that he’s taller.

Sirius Black – 6’2” (188cm)

Sirius Black was best friends with James Potter, Lily Potter, Remus Lupin, Peter Pettigrew, and Harry Potter’s godfather. He was described as tall, handsome, and had long, dark hair. Although after he was wrongfully accused and spent 12 years in Azkaban, his handsomeness faded, and he looked well beyond his years from mistreatment and abuse.

Some argue that Sirius was about 5’11”, but it’s theorized that he stands closer to 6’2″. It could be that people confuse Sirius’s height with the actor who plays him, Gary Oldman, who is 5’9″.

Severus Snape – 5’9” (175.3cm)

Severus Snape was a brilliant professor, wizard, and notoriously known as “The Half-Blood Prince.” He attended Hogwarts at the same time as James Potter, Remus Lupin, Sirius Black, and Peter Pettigrew, but he wasn’t friends with them; in fact, they often bullied him.

Severus is said to be about 5’9″ since it’s noted that he’s relatively shorter than Sirius. The actor who played him, Alan Rickman, was 6’1″.

Lord Voldemort – 6’3” (190.5cm)

Lord Voldemort (Tom Riddle) was the most powerful Dark Wizard who ever lived. It may seem like he is shorter because Ralph Fiennes, the actor who portrays him, is 5’11”.

Voldemort is actually about 6’3″. He was described as tall and slender. Interestingly, he could’ve been shorter when he was Tom Riddle, but his new body was clearly taller and lankier.

Draco Malfoy – 6’0” (182.9cm)

Draco Malfoy is the only child of Lucius and Narcissa Malfoy and essentially the sworn enemy of Harry Potter.

Draco is about 6 feet tall, slightly taller than Harry. Tom Felton, who plays Draco, is 5’9″. He was described as “slender with sleek white-blond hair, cold grey eyes, a pale complexion and rather sharp, pointed features.”

Bellatrix Lestrange – 6’0” (182.9cm)

Bellatrix Lestrange is Lord Voldemort’s most loyal servant. She is described as “a woman with thick, shining dark hair and heavily hooded eyes.” It may have been due to her time in Azkaban, but Bellatrix was very selfish, sadistic, and cruel.

Surprisingly, Bellatrix was about 6’0″ while the actress who plays her character, Helena Bonham Carter, was only 5’2″.

Horace Slughorn – 5’3” (160cm)

Horace Slughorn is a wizard and Hogwarts professor, the very same one who confirmed to Tom Riddle that it was possible to split his soul into seven Horcruxes.

His appearance is described as fat, bald, short, and old. He stands at about 5 feet tall. This may seem odd because he looks a lot taller in the movies, but that’s because Jim Broadbent, who plays Professor Slughorn, is 6’2″.

Filius Flitwick – 2’3” (68.6cm)

Filius Flitwick was part-goblin and part-wizard, so he stood at only about 2’3″ due to his Goblin heritage.

He was a beloved professor at Hogwarts and treated his students with equality and fairness, even though he didn’t receive the same treatment while he was growing up. The actor who plays him, Warwick Davis, is 3’6″.

Rubeus Hagrid – 8’6” (259.1cm)

Rubeus Hagrid was half-giant and half-wizard. He stood at about 8’6″, but he would have been much taller if he had been born full-giant. We love Hagrid from the moment we meet him, and we see how kind, caring, and compassionate he is.

Dolores Umbridge – 5’1” (154.9cm)

Dolores Umbridge was the High Inquisitor at Hogwarts. While she was seemingly sweet on the outside, she was a cruel woman who frequently abused her power and authority. She was about 5’1″ and “is said to resemble a ‘large, pale toad.'”

Arthur Weasley – 6’1” (185.4cm)

Arthur Weasley is the husband to Molly Weasley and father of the seven Weasley children. Although he is a pureblood wizard, he doesn’t share in the belief of pureblood supremacy – that muggle-born witches and wizards don’t deserve to have magical abilities.

He is said to be “a thin man, going bald, but the little hair on his head is as red as any of his children’s. His dearest wish is to find out how Muggle airplanes stay up.” He’s about 6’2 and the actor who plays him, Mark Williams, is 6’1.

Molly Weasley – 5’3” (160cm)

Molly Weasley is the loving, selfless, and protective mother of the Weasley children and wife of Arthur Weasley. She is about 5’3 and described as “short, slightly plump, and kindly-looking.”

The actress who plays Molly, Julia Walters, is about the same height as her character.

Bill Weasley – 6’1” (185.4cm)

Like the rest of the Weasley family, William “Bill” Weasley was on the taller side, standing at about 6’3″. He was the oldest of the Weasley siblings and eventually married Fleur Delacour.

Charlie Weasley – 5’7” (170.2cm)

Charles “Charlie” Weasley was on the shorter side, unlike the other Weasleys, but he shared their notable red hair. He was about 5’7″ or 5’8″.

He was the second oldest sibling, and after he graduated from Hogwarts, he went to Romania to study dragons.

Percy Weasley – 6’1” (185.4cm)

Percy Weasley was perhaps the most serious Weasley sibling. He worked at the Ministry of Magic and didn’t share his twin brother’s (Fred and George) love for pranks and practical jokes. He was about 6’1″.

Ginny Weasley – 5’6” (167.6cm)

Ginny Weasley is one of seven Weasley children and the only girl. J.K. Rowling describes her as “tough, not in an unpleasant way, but gutsy” and “warm and compassionate.” While she had a few different love interests during her time at Hogwarts, Ginny eventually became interested in Harry, and they later married.

Ginny is a little above average height for a girl, at about 5’6″. It helps that the actress who plays her, Bonnie Wright, is the same height.

Fred and George Weasley – 6’3” (190.5cm)

The twins, Fred and George Weasley are lovable, mischievous, and enjoy playing pranks and practical jokes on others. They left Hogwarts during the “reign” of Dolores Umbridge and opened a joke shop called “Weasleys’ Wizard Wheezes.”

Fred and George are roughly 6’3″, making it even harder to tell them apart.
